It was always going to be hard against Premiership Oppo. But what can I say boys, cometh the hour cometh the man. Although in this case, cometh the 2 hour mark, cometh the 12 men. Colossus effort from everyone. Just to keep going like that for 2 hours, never losing the fight. Immense.

Hard to single out anyone but I loved Josh in the middle of the park keeping it all ticking and the relentless chat. And Jayson between the sticks was brilliant and voted players player. Well played fella.

We contained them in large parts of the game pretty comfortably. Richard and Pete never looking in trouble. And Scottie making full back play look like child’s play! Midfield kept shape and kept Oppo at arms length, no drama.  Don’t mind Oppo playing passes about in front of our midfield. Shaun gave them plenty to think about upfront. Holding and turning and getting us up the field. Rewarded with a great headed goal after some quality build up play  -Josh nicely done fella.

At that point I thought we looked the better side and more likely to go on and win.

But the full time whistle came. There was some debate about whether we go straight in to penalties or play extra time. Light was fading. A compromise position was agreed of 10 mins each way.

It was a big ask. 5 mins in Spartans got their second goal to huge delight and fanfare from Oppo. I won’t even try and repeat here Josh’s shout as I simply won’t do it justice but it was the funniest thing I’ve heard, and it’d definitely be worth playing Premiership Oppo again next season just to hear that shout again!

2-1. We didn’t give up and the boys battled on. But legs were going. There were heaps of players on the ground everywhere. It like watching Italia 90. In the end Spartans tucked a couple more away.

It ended 4-1. But the heroics will last long in the memories. Just wished I could have been out there with you. Special thanks to Dave H and Tom R for stepping up and playing for us. I think Dave H played 165 mins today and is probably still out there playing. Thanks also to Paul for thanklessly running the line. Cheers mucka.

And now we can concentrate on the league. Onwards and upwards boys.
