Match Report – League Fixture

Old Tiffinian’s Reserves Vs Shene Old Grammarians Reserves

Match day descends again at Grist’s Memorial Ground. The wind is fierce. Sky overcast. The sun tries to shine through. It is another top of the table clash with 1st Vs 2nd.

A moment of silence strikes the changing room. The team learns that Mr Brazil is away till the new year. A true tiff. One that elevates the team on a match day, but we must strive on and step up.

The match is poised, the line up is announced, applause is heard because El Capitano starts for the first time this season. Players are out of position but ready to do a job.

Kick off. The wind has picked up and the ball travels further than expected. The start is fast. Livey. Full of desire from both teams. Quick movement of the ball sets Kieran away down the line. Ball in the box but Corey must chase it. Recovered. Ball back in the box. Ash gets it down. Gets it on to Harry LJ. The sweet left foot and its in the bottom corner. 1-0.

You might ask how he got there considering he started at left back. Scored though.

The game continues strong from both sides. Shene creating several chances, showing that they are a top team. The game got scrappy for a while and Tiff’s could not get the ball down. El Capitano doing his best to create calm and get the passing game going again. The game had chances at both ends. A fine goal line stop from the Shene keeper. Tiffs on the attack again. Sean G on the half volley, another great stop from the keeper. Long ball, its not controlled, missed by the CB and Shene are through. 1-1. HT.

El Capitano always says that 2nd halves are where games are made, Tiffs need to step up and fight for this W. Kick off. Dylan plays a perfect ball forward. Kieran is on to it. Gets the shot away. Blocked. No slow starts here. The pressure continues from both sides. A nice bit of play by Shene, working the ball out wide. El Capitano can see the striker, middle of the goal, free as a bird. The darting sprint, knowing the ball was going to be fired across. El Capitano gets there. Gets the toe in just before and sends it for a corner. Goal saving block. Read the game like a book. Hopefully it was a romanticy novel.

Tiffs go down the other end. Ball over the top. Ash is onto it. Collides with the keeper. Initially thought to be brave GK. The ref then points to the spot. Penalty. Ref states that the CB pushed Ash into the GK. Dangerous play. Penalty.

Up steps Ash. A wizard with these of sorts. El Capitano was never in doubt, already in his own half. Ash slots it away beautifully in the bottom corner. 2-1.

25 minutes to go, still a long time and Shene have proven to be an excellent side. A few changes are made. Ash to CB. The game continues. Shene pile on the pressure, carving out some excellent opportunities. Ball flashes across the box. Farhan gets across. Stops the ball down to his right on the goal line. Unbelievable save.

Crosses flying in. One is looping. It is over Farhan, under the bar, there is Ash to put in perfectly over the bar. The defensive discipline is unmatched. Attack wins you games. Defence wins you championships. Tiffs hold out. FT.

Shene showing just how good of a side they are. The difference. POTM Ash BR. Unbeatable.
