Old Tiffs Vets 2s registered their first win of the season. Get in you beauty. Really nice feeling to get the first win in the bag. Hopefully Josh’s dog gets a week off from being kicked all week long.

We played 3-5-2 which proved to be effective as midfield worked their collective socks off and overran the Oppo. All over them like a proverbial rash.

While at the back we looked largely untroubled against a sprightly Hersham frontline that age-wise appeared barely out of kindergarten. Or was that because they were standing next to Scottie? Paul and Ricky causing all sorts of problems upfront.

We scored a cracker in the first half though don’t ask me who actually scored.

Feel free to reply claiming the goal. Not you Paul!

Half time we went in 1-0. Though in fairness it could have been 5. Half time talk was of belief, work rate and composure. But 1-0 is always a dangerous lead. And it only takes a misplaced, nonchalant back heel, followed by an improbably sweet strike and they were right back in it. 1-1. Game on.

But we grafted, we harried, we closed down and our chances came. And went. Their keeper to be fair had a blinder. But eventually we beat him. More precisely, Pat beat him with a laser left foot strike (one that Robbie Fowler would have been proud of).

And that was that. No way back for Hersham. Back 3, now 4, had em in their pockets while smoking cigars.

Shout out to Paul who did everything but score. Credit also to Yas who put in a shift at right wing back. And terrific debut from Tony, first at the back then up front.

But man of the match performance from Pat, who was irrepressible in the middle of the park. Snapping at Hersham heals like a man possessed.

All in all, top drawer performance boys. We’re on a roll!
