Old Tiffs 1s lined up for their first home fixture of the season looking to give the vocal home support something to cheer about. Hopes were high as a similar team to the week before started the game well, moving the ball around with purpose and dealing with the occasional counter attack well.

For all the home teams’ pretty possession they couldn’t make the breakthrough in the first half an hour – sometimes what you need to pick the lock is a big man with a big head, and that’s what Keiran delivered. The axillary fullback rose highest from a devilish corner from Alan to head the purples in front, marking his return to the 1s fold in style.

The rest of the game carried on as it had started, with Tiffs moving the ball well and keeping possession, but unable to get the key second goal – clear cut chance fines all over the place. Eventually, a gorgeous man broke through the Whitgiftians defence following a good ball from Dave Bettis to finish coolly and seal a well-deserved second victory of the season.

Up the purps!
