Match report: Sutton

Sutton United arrived bringing the joy and sportsmanship that they are renown for. With a squad of almost 20 for a 9 aside game, their subs stretched the length of the field in what resembled the Chelsea’s squad photo. The mighty Tiffs on the other hand had a solid 9.5 players after injury, illness, travelling and uni had wiped out most of the squad.

The initial stages of the game were very even with some good passing and moving from Tiffs. The backline were playing the ball forward beautifully and were able to deal with the threat from Sutton effectively, much to the annoyance of their ever happy and encouraging supporters.

Sutton and their revolving door of substitutions eventually proved too much and they took two chances to move into a 2-0 lead going into the half time break. Tiffs continued to graft after the restart and were rewarded when our winger/right back/centre mid/now striker Fi broke through Sutton’s defences and smashed an effort passed the keeper to bring us back into the game. Unfortunately for the home side, we were unable to pull ourselves level and Sutton took a late chance to move to a 3-1 lead.

Noteworthy performances from Mia on the wing who put in an exceptional display and our skipper Fi for her composure infront of goal to give the mighty purples a glimmer of hope.

Player of the match went yet again to Darcey. Not just because she has the longest legs in the league, but because they carried her around the pitch like a gazelle. She was a rock at the back and was able to find attacking players with greater ease than she can find her jumper after training.

On to the next lads. We go again.
