Match report: Croydon

The arrival of Croydon meant a bottom of the table clash between two teams in desperate need of points. Croydon were sitting pretty with a solitary point whilst the mighty Purps were alas rock bottom with nothing to show for their efforts so far.

Prior to the match, Tiffs showed their generous side by agreeing to play 10v10 due to Croydon’s lack of players. Surely, just surely, this sporting gesture would earn us some good karma from the football gods.

Early on things seemed to be working out perfectly for the beautiful purples. The ball was being played out well and our short passing game was working effectively. Some neat interplay between our midfielders and attackers resulted in a delightful through ball for birthday girl Gilly who gifted the team with a composed finish to give Tiffs a 1-0 and well deserved lead.

Tiffs did not have it all their own way in their first half with the team having to withstand some strong physical pressure from Croydon with some nasty knocks and some more dubious ones. Just before the break Croydon managed to break through down their left but Matilda and Libby were colossal at the back and threw themselves in front of the shot to snuff out the danger.

In the second half things turned. What we lack in points we make up for in generosity and this was on show again in what can only be described as a pretty bleak 20minutes. Tiffs gifted Croydon with three goals which gave them a rather flattering lead. Although there were spells of good play afterwards it was too big of a deficit to overcome. A disappointing result in what was a very winnable game.

Notable performers include Loddy returning to play in goal after a serious injury last season. The fine wine that is our birthday girl Gilly put in a solid shift despite her increase in age and took her goal beautifully. Player of the match went to Chloe who withstood some heavy challenges, provided some great link up play and drew some good saves from the opposition keeper. All whilst receiving a running lecture in managing emotions. Busy day for Chloe.

Still no points, but Fi made two cakes and it didn’t rain so there’s that. On to the next lads!
