The sky was grey and light drizzle hung in the air as Tiffs 4s kicked off their league season against John Fisher Old Boys.

Tiffs goalie Euan ‘Shieldsy’ Shields lured John Fisher into a false sense of optimism by ‘pretending’ to let their first shot on target squirm through his legs.  He casually stopped it right on the goal line.

Tiffs debutant Max Melsa was then harshly penalised for an unorthodox pirouette backwards sliding tackle in the penalty area.  Despite some good humoured sledging from Tiffs, John Fisher tucked the penalty away.

Tiffs were playing well but went 2-0 down with the last kick of the first half when a long ball was headed back across goal and deflected in off Grant Calderrama.

Spurred on by his young family cheering on the touchline, Calderrama made amends in the second half when he won the ball, drove forward and set up Stevie Dwyer.  He raced clear, drew the keeper and calmly slotted home.

As the drizzle intensified so did the pressure on John Fisher as Tiffs launched wave after wave of attack.  This was rewarded with ten minutes to go.  Following a short corner, Marco VanEdees crossed for Tom Flynnaldinho Jr steaming in to crash home a header.

It was a terrific, spirited fight back. A good all round performance.
