Clissold Park Rangers II’s 6 -1 Old Tiffinians III’s
As the long 2024/25 season drags on into its erm… 2nd week, Old Tiffs 3’s was struck by a traditional player crisis. With players variously out because of stag parties, early season holidays, some sort of chicken based birthday party and a general sense of ennui, it was a challenge simply to get a team out on the pitch.
Those players selected for the game all managed to arrive at the correct ground – Barn Elms Sports Trust, NOT Barn Elms Sports Centre – but sadly, after the mental exertion of reading big signs they were unable to read little signs and a few of them ended up in the wrong changing room. No matter, surely this wasn’t an ill portent for the game ahead.
The game started, as all games do, with a whistle. Tiffs continued where they left off from the week before, with some decent football that was ultimately undone by a lack of confidence in the final third. Clissold used a bold technique of knocking it long, which proved ruthlessly efficient and saw them race away into a two goal lead. What could generously be described as a, somewhat, soft penalty gave them a flattering 3-0 half time lead.
The second half began in much the same way as the first, also with a whistle. Sadly, the football continued in the same way too. Tiffs were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty themselves, with the footballing gods taking swift action over the travesty of a decision from the week before.
Tiffs briefly rallied, with a well taken goal from Player of the Match Oli Lofthouse, but due to a little bit of defensive dallying from the more experienced members of the team, Clissold were able to massage the score into a 6-1 win.
