Sinjuns Grammarians III 4 - 1 OTFC IVs

OTFC IVs v Sinjuns Gramarians III, Saturday 20 October 2018

It was a deceptively warm October afternoon when Tiffs travelled to Wandsworth to play Grammarians. With only eleven players it was going to be a tough afternoon. Keeper Euan Shields was struggling with a finger injury and after refusing to play in goal with one arm tied behind his back this meant Tiffs would have to play with a stand-in keeper. For the first half Marian Vrabie stepped up between the sticks.

Tiffs started strongly and almost scored within seconds of the game starting after a slick passing move but Stevie Dywer was pulled back for offside. Tiffs continued to dominate but couldn’t find a way through with the best chance falling to Stevie who rounded the keeper but took it too far wide.

At the other end of the pitch things had been largely uneventful with Grammarians failing to test stand-in keeper Marian until he decided to spice things up and pick up a back pass whilst under no pressure. The resulting indirect free kick hit the bar and a second effort was headed off the line by Wes Bishop.  The half finished 0-0.

After a rousing team talk from skipper Charlie Hughes the Tiffs went back out for the seconds half. Wes Bishop took over from Marian Vrabie in goal.

The second half got off to a bad start, with Grammarians scoring after an unlucky deflection meant the ball snuck inside the post. Things went from bad to worse and Tiffs found themselves 3-0 down whilst pushing for a goal of their own.

Chances kept coming but Tiffs were unable to take them. Tiffs pulled one back when Marc Edees fired in a low corner which Greg Nutt buried into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately, Grammarians scored a fourth to end hopes of a comeback.  Final score 4-1 Grammarians.
