Old Salesians II 6 - 0 OTFC Is

OTs sent a makeshift 1st XI into (and straight out of) a second amateur cup competition in as many weeks with a second half capitulation against Old Salesians. After a solid start to the game, Tiffin gifted a goal to their athletic oppo with a misplaced pass in midfield – an error that became a frequent feature in a frustrating afternoon. When a roaming Salesian centre half popped up with a well-worked second after 20 minutes, the purps looked all at sea. The listing ship was steadied by some experienced deck-hands, messrs Youlie, Harry and Nutt showed a calmness which spread throughout the squad and, in fairness, Tiffs ended the opening 45 in the ascendancy.

Any hopes of a revival at Nescott were dashed minutes into the second half. A Salesian midfielder, whose obscene haircut resembled a member of East 17, won a cheap free kick on the edge of the D. When it was dispatched into the top corner of a blameless Rose’s net, and a sloppy fourth was conceded seconds after the restart, Tiffs suffered a gut-punch from which they would never recover.

The final score of 6-0 did not flatter a talented Salesian side. OTs will look forward to a return to league football after one more cup match next week. With no official MotM nomination the back pages had Youlie as Tiffs’ most effective player (Editor’s note – Bruno was awarded the official MotM from a depleted poll). Congratulations to him; unlucky to the boys.
